“Für Elise” – Jorg Demus, Beethoven (Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, WoO 59) on Beethoven’s own piano

“Für Elise” – Jorg Demus, Beethoven (Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, WoO 59) on Beethoven’s own piano.

In this 1970 live recording, made in Bonn to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, Austrian pianist Jorg Demus performs “Für Elise,” also known as Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor (WoO 59). I created this video from the double LP shown above, issued in 1983 by the Musical Heritage Society. It is unclear whether Demus is playing Beethoven’s Broadwood piano (this is what is indicated on the LP jacket) or Beethoven’s Graf piano (this is what is indicated on the LP label). At the end of the video are extensive images of the notes on the reverse side of the LP jacket, with Demus discussing the two pianos and their histories.
